Idioms

When you are trying to write dialogue for several different characters, it is often difficult to give each character a separate voice. Idioms are a good tool to use towards this purpose. For instance, when stating that an item is expensive one character my say that it costs "a pretty penny." Another character might state that it costs "an arm and a leg." When they have a dispute to settle with someone, one character might choose to say that they have "a bone to pick" with them. Another character might state that they have "an axe to grind" with the other person.
